Classified as “the world’s only flying eye hospital” the Orbis aircraft was featured at the Dubai Airshow this November.
The new Boeing MD-10 has been converted into a working hospital and flies to developing countries to provide training for doctors and nurses, as well as delivering sight-saving surgeries.
Orbis International is a non-profit non-governmental organization (NGO) based out of the U.S. that runs only on donations. It focuses on the prevention and treatment of blindness in countries around the world.
Over the last five years Orbis has trained over 10,000 doctors, completed over 12.5 million eye exams and performed approximately 350,000 eye surgeries!
We are proud to report that Dr. Stephen Slade was the Medical Director of Orbis International for 2 years. Dr. Slade himself traveled to over 70 countries to provide surgery to those in need!
