On September 1, 2020, Slade & Baker experienced yet another FIRST.
Dr. Slade and Dr. Walton were asked to be 2 of the first 30 surgeons to pre-launch a brand-new intraocular lens (IOL), which is a new extended depth of focus lens.
Dr. Bennett Walton placed our first IOL, one of the first in Texas since the lens launched.
The patient was so excited the next day that he ordered some delicious breakfast for all of our team and the surgery center staff from Liberty Taco! In case y’all are wondering, the team LOVED the barbacoa and the brisket breakfast taco!
The new lens gives distance and intermediate vision with a reduced optical side effect payoff. This lens is for people whose eyes are not healthy enough (due to dryness, previous eye surgery, early macular degeneration, early glaucoma, etc.) for a trifocal range-of-vision lens, but who would otherwise have to settle for a basic monofocal lens with no range—with a separate pair of computer (intermediate) glasses and reading (near) glasses.
The Vivity lens gives distance and intermediate vision, so that patients have more visual freedom. Patients who choose the Vivity lens will still need reading glasses for reading and seeing up close.
For patients with healthy enough eyes, your Slade & Baker customized plan may include a trifocal lens, which is the best way to deliver the broadest range of vision for the most glasses-free vision.
The lens looks like a monofocal because it has nice, smooth, non-diffractive optics. However, when the light is just right, it’s possible to see the wave front shifting component with the microscope.
The only way to know which lenses and vision strategies might be best for your eyes is to schedule an evaluation (LINK) at Slade & Baker Vision.
