This past Saturday, our team at Slade & Baker Vision spent their day at the Eye Stroll for Vision!
What is the Eye Stroll for Vision? This family-friendly, fun-filled event allows families, friends and coworkers to enjoy a leisurely stroll around the zoo on Saturday morning. This is not a timed event, allowing everyone to enjoy the animals at their own pace!
When did the walk take place? Saturday, November 17, 2018
How long was the walk route? There was a 5K which is close to 3.2 miles, with an available shorter route of 1 mile. Families with young children could choose to walk and do the 1-mile route. Either way, there was something for everyone!
Where does the money go? Participants in Eye Stroll for Vision raise awareness and funds to screen thousands of adults and children in Texas, educate the public on eye health and safety, and provide eye exams and eyeglasses to those in need. Last year Prevent Blindness Texas and its volunteers screened the eyes of 5,349 adults and 18,057 children, distributed educational materials to more than 22,151 Texans, and provided 5,554 vouchers for free eye exams and glasses to adults and children who qualified. 84 cents of every dollar raised goes towards these sight-saving programs.
How will our fundraising dollars make a difference?
– A $200 gift will provide training approximately 6 vision screeners
– A $100 gift will provide 25 children to receive a vision screening
– A $100 gift will provide 1 child to receive a pair of eyeglasses
– A $65 gift will provide 1 child to receive a comprehensive eye exam
Slade & Baker Vision Donated enough to cover all the above. We are so happy to give back to our community and help those who need the vision help!
It was a great turnout of staff as well as the community! We wanted to share some of our pictures of our team at the event and all of the goodies we gave away at our booth!
